Acupuncture originated in ancient China over 2,000 years ago and is one of the most widespread healing systems in the world. The term "acupuncture" covers a variety of techniques involving the stimulation of special points on the body using fine needles, heat, pressure, friction and various other techniques.

These techniques are used to balance the body and facilitate the circulation of blood, fluids and the flow of Qi (energy) throughout the body, optimizing its ability to heal injury, illness and dysfunction.

This is a different approach from the Western paradigm of medical treatment, which focuses solely on treating symptoms and not on treating the root cause of dysfunction. With acupuncture and Chinese medicine, the goal is to fix the symptoms by healing the root.
